Since Andreas Doverstav and Tom Healey took over The Longholme Café in 2017, they’ve invested heavily to transform it and have welcomed more and more guests to the café, which sits by the boating lake in Bedford.

What did we deliver?
A Markilux Pergola was supplied to the lakeside café in Bedford, by the team at In Your Corner.
The plan was to compliment the interior of the café by creating an all-weather space for visitors to dine outside.
After talks with In Your Corner, it became clear that the old awning, which was currently being used to shelter outdoor diners from the rain, should be removed and replaced with a new, purpose-built all-weather awning.
The Markilux Pergola was the perfect solution for Andreas and Tom, who wanted to enhance their café, increase footfall and put their business firmly on the map.
The enquiry for the pergola came to us as lockdown restrictions were being lifted and The Longholme Cafe was preparing to welcome even more customers.

How did we do?
Tom Healey, co-owner of The Longholme Café, said:
“When we got the keys to the building in early 2017, we walked into a mess.
We stripped back the whole site to the wires and refitted the lot. Thankfully, we were able to upcycle some things and maintain a touch of the past.
As part of our refit, we bought two basic awnings and fitted them at the front of the café.
They worked well for a while but it wasn’t long before we realised that we needed to rethink what we’d done.
In reality, the cheap awnings provided a poor return on investment and that’s when we turned to a professional outdoor hospitality specialist for advice.
We decided we needed a more professional pergola awning that was more robust and could run along the front of the café, which measures 12-metres long. And something that would look great and last for years and years.
We decided on the Markilux Pergola and we have not been disappointed. The pergola has been fantastic and the remote-control system has been extremely efficient when dealing with changing weather conditions.”
